Xander Schauffele wins the 2024 PGA Championship

Xander Schauffele has captured his maiden major title with victory at the 2024 US PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Schauffele, 30, poured home a birdie putt from six feet on the par-5 18th to seal a narrow one-shot victory over LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau.

The World No.3 closed with a gutsy round of 6-under 65 to finish the week on 21-under par, which marks the lowest winning score to par in a major championship.

The previous low winning score at a major was 20-under par (2015 US PGA, 2016 Open, 2020 Masters, 2022 Open).

Schauffele also joins a list of 10 players to go wire-to-wire at a major championship.

The win marks Schauffele's first major title and the eighth of his PGA Tour career.

Schauffele said during his victory speech:

"I was actually kind of emotional when the putt lipped in. It's been a while since I last won, I just kept saying to myself all week 'I just need to stay in my lane' but man was it tough to stay in my lane today. I just tried to keep being focused. Had some weird kind of breaks coming into the house, but it's all good now.
"I really didn't want to go into a playoff with Bryson. I'm assuming we would have played 18, it would have been a lot of work. I just said to myself 'this is my opportunity and just go and capture it'."

On celebrating the biggest win of his career to date with his family, Schauffele said:

"My Mum is back home in San Diego, my Dad is over in Hawaii. I just spoke to him. I had to hang up quickly because he was starting to make me cry. He was on the phone balling. It means so much to have my wife and brother here, and I have some close friends here too. It's just so special and I'm happy to win this for my team."
