Shallow milled face and tungsten insert make make for a very soft feel | Better for golfers with a straight stroke and medium tempo

The PING DS72 C putter is one of 10 new putter models that the brand has for the 2023 season. Across this range, golfers of all ages and abilities have been considered.

All of these models also offer huge forgiveness and adapt to your putting stroke.

GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge tested the PING DS72 C model (£279.00) at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate. He assessed its performance, feel and consistency.

All you need to know: Best Golf Putters

We always stress the importance of custom-fitting. Such as with drivers, irons and wedges, a putter fitting with this new PING range would be hugely beneficial because you can pick out which putter suits your stroke.

PING work with some of the best players on the PGA Tour such as Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Tyrrell Hatton and Corey Conners.

We have reviewed some of the highlights of PING's equipment portfolio in recent seasons such as the PING G425 driver and the PING Glide 4.0 wedge.

PING DS72 C putter - Key Features

As with each putter in this new range, the PING DS72 C putter has been constructed with high MOI and low CG. These features increase the forgiveness of your putts and keep the weighting of the head even.

PING has added a clear, long and white alignment aid to help you line up your putts. The company say this model has a shallow milled face which increases feel.

The tungsten insert with the shallow milled face gives you a positive feeling when you strike your ball. You want your short game to feel effortless and PING has delivered in this department.

The centre-shafted design (simply meaning the end of the shaft is positioned in the middle of the club head) can increase your confidence with putting.

This is because, with each feature focused in the middle of the club, along with the alignment line, you feel compelled to find the middle of the club face with your putts.

Player Level

The PING DS72 C is a centre-shafted putter and it suits golfers who have a medium putting tempo. This model also suits golfers with a straight-back-and-through stroke, as opposed to someone who deviates on their backswing.

PING DS72 C putter - Looks and Feel

The face of the putter is silver with two small, black sections in the bottom corners. The face has a very metallic and simplistic design.

On the bottom of the club, we have the back half in black with the name of the model and the brand logo in white. It is a very smart look which certainly stands out.

The feel of this club is not as good as the likes of a Scotty Cameron putter. However, the PING DS72 C putter is not as expensive as a standard Scotty Cameron model, so PING offers good value in this way.

Should you buy the PING DS72 C putter?

In this review, we have assessed the performance of just one putter in PING's new 10-piece release. Having said that, the DS72 C model is extremely impressive.

This putter will best serve players who have consistent straight-back-and-through motion. It suits a player with a moderate tempo in their putting stroke, so it is important to go through a thorough custom fitting process to find out if this putter is for you.

The PING DS72 C is very well designed. The silver and black divide is very smart and the white alignment line on the top of the club is clear and helpful.

The shallow milled face and tungsten insert guarantee a solid connection and for £279.00, this club represents good value when compared to other, more expensive options.
