Jon Rahm has confirmed the real reason for removing his name from Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's tech-infused TGL was down to "time commitment".

Rahm, 29, was speaking to reporters in the media centre ahead of his title defence at this week's DP World Tour Championship in Dubai where the Spaniard is incredibly looking to win the season-ending title for a fourth time since 2017.

The World No.4 had initially been confirmed as one of 24 names in the new TGL, which starts on January 9, 2024, in Florida.

But after giving it more thought, especially being based with his family the other side of the United States in Arizona, Rahm decided to remove his name from the list.

Rahm joins other big-name PGA Tour players Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth in bypassing the new virtual league that sees matches take place at the start of a week.

When quizzed by a reporter on his reason for stepping down from TGL, Rahm said:

"I don't know if I can be more clear than the statement I put out. It's just a time commitment I'm not -- I can't really commit to right now, right. It's quite a bit of extra hours of flight, quite a bit of extra time of being away from home. And at the same time of having just redone a lot of my deals, got to think of my sponsors, as well. So it would have been a bit more of a commitment than I expected at first.
"That's basically it. It's just too much for what I think I should be doing."

Rahm also confirmed he has absolutely no interest in replacing McIlroy on the PGA Tour policy board following his shock resignation.
