At King's Golf Studio in East Grinstead, Alex from GolfMagic compared the data and accuracy of the Garmin Approach R10 launch monitor to the Trackman launch monitor.

To begin with, one thing that cannot be compared between these two products is the price. The Garmin Approach R10 costs £529, whereas a Trackman launch monitor can cost up to £20,000.

This is why Trackman products are used at the Ryder Cup and PGA Tour events. They are extremely accurate devices that provide data down to the last decimal.

The Garmin Approach R10 is still a very good product. You can connect it to your phone and have your club distances, spin rate and shot deviation in the palm of your hand.

When Alex compared both of the launch monitors, it is fair to say that there were a couple of discrepancies between the Garmin and Trackman devices, which you could argue isn't surprising.

As Alex hit a series of short shots in the studio, there were clear differences in the yardages being picked up by the Garmin Approach R10, compared with the Trackman monitor.

Although the distances became fairly similar, the direction deviation and specific areas of data such as spin and attack angle of the club were inaccurate.

This is where the Trackman monitor excels and this is where we discover the difference in price. This is not to say that the Garmin Approach R10 is not a product worth buying. It is extremely useful, practical and affordable.

As Alex moved up his bag and hit longer irons, the flight and direction of the ball continued to be a discrepancy. Where Trackman was picking out these shots as draws, the Garmin monitor picked some up as small fades.

When Alex got the driver out, we saw good distance similarities between both products, so this shows that the Garmin Approach R10 monitor is by no means an inferior item.

Essentially, for such a difference in price, you cannot expect the same data and accuracy to be produced by the Garmin Approach R10 and the Trackman launch monitors.

The R10 can be put in your pocket with your wallet, taken with you on to the course and it is still an essential product for practice and game improvement.

But, for the all-around experience in accuracy across a number of different features such as distance, deviation, spin and angles, the Trackman launch monitor arguably sets the standard in golf.
