Charley Hull makes Donald Trump claim: 'I think it's a shame...'

Charley Hull has urged the R&A to get Trump Turnberry back on the rota for the AIG Women's Open. 

Hull, 28, made her feelings be known about former US President Donald Trump's famous links course ahead of this week's ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open. 

Trump Turnberry was previously part of the Women's Scottish Open rota up until 2021.

The Ayrshire course hosted the AIG Women's Open twice, most recently in 2015.

Turnberry has also hosted The Open four times - 1977, 1986, 1994 and 2009. 

But it now remains off the Open rota, with little to no sign of a return by the R&A.

The R&A stated in January 2021 that it "will not return until we are convinced that the focus will be on the championship, the players and the course."

When Hull was pressed by reporters as to whether Trump Turnberry should be let back onto the Open rota by the R&A, she did not hesitate in her response about the controversial subject. 

"100%," said an adamant Hull, who warmed up for this week's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links with a practice round at Trump Turnberry. 

"I think it's a shame, it's a really top track. 

"Honestly, it's one of the best golf courses in the world. 

"It would be a shame not to be on there."

Hull added after her latest trip to Turnberry: "I love being out on the course, the views are brilliant. It was so much fun."

The World No.11 has endured a tough recent run of form as a result of having hurt her shoulder when coming out of the shower last month. 

After teeing up in this week's ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open, Hull will then turn her attentions to the AIG Women's Open on the iconic Old Course at St Andrews from 22-25 August.

Trump's second-eldest son Eric, who acts the vice president of Turnberry, is hopeful his family's golf course will soon be back on The Open rotation. 

"Turnberry is considered to be, by far, the best course on the rota," said Eric Trump. 

“If the decision is political, which it appears it is, there’s not a damn thing in the world I can do about it. What I can do is have the greatest golf course on Earth. It’s always rated top-5 anywhere in the world.

"It’s been rated No.1 many times. That’s what I can control. When the tournament comes around and they want to do it, fantastic. We’ll be there with open arms. We’d love to do it."
