Madeira set to sparkle at IGTM 2022 in Italy's eternal city
The magic of Madeira will be on full display in Italy’s Eternal City this month.
The magic of Madeira will be on full display in Italy’s Eternal City this month when the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) heads to Rome from October 17-20 for the world’s largest event for the golf travel industry.
The biggest-ever delegation from the Portuguese archipelago will head to Italy’s capital to promote the many benefits of visiting the idyllic island destination, with Madeira’s tourist board, golf courses and hotels all represented.
Madeira’s 13-strong team is set for a busier time than ever at this year’s IGTM – which is being held at the Rome Convention Center at La Nuvola – with the appointment diary filling up fast across the four days of the event.
Exhibiting under the Madeira Golf Passport trademark – the best way to experience the islands’ combination of golf, leisure and cultural experiences – the group will consist of delegates from the Madeira Promotion Bureau, the islands’ three golf courses (Clube de Golfe Santo da Serra, Palheiro Golf and Porto Santo Golfe), destination management company Golf in Madeira and a number of hotel partners. The hotels being represented this year include Melia Madeira Mare, Savoy Palace, Galo Resort, Orca Praia and Vila Baleira.
Sara Marote, executive director of the Madeira Promotion Bureau and part of the group at IGTM, said: “After the many challenges of the last couple of years, it’s a pleasure to be travelling to Rome and talking to the key people in the global golf tourism industry.
“As a golf destination, Madeira has so much to offer to players from all over Europe and beyond. We’re delighted with the growing number of golfers that have chosen to visit our beautiful islands in recent years but there are still plenty more people we can reach, and IGTM gives us the opportunity to showcase our country to many more new and emerging markets.”
Awarded with the title of ‘World´s Leading Island Destination’ at the 2021 World Travel Awards for the seventh year in a row, Madeira features three first-class 18-hole golf courses – Palheiro Golf, Clube de Golfe Santo da Serra and Porto Santo Golfe as well as an array of outstanding historic, cultural and lifestyle experiences.
The island has enjoyed a steady increase in overseas bookings in the last 12 months with growing numbers of European golfers eager to experience the many benefits of playing first-class golf in a safe and secure environment.
Located approximately 1,000km from the European mainland – and just 500km from the African continent – the island destination enjoys an amazingly mild climate, ranging from 25°c in the summer to 17°c in the winter, with very mild average temperatures and moderate humidity, making it the perfect year-round location for a golf break.
The best way to enjoy the island’s golf is with a Madeira Golf Passport which, providing holders with an unrivalled golf experience, is available to both individuals and groups and can be booked on a three or five-round basis.
